As we commemorate another World Humanitarian Day, I extend my heartfelt greetings to all humanitarian workers around the globe. In a world marred by crises, escalating numbers of refugees, orphans, deprived individuals, and homeless populations, the dedication of those who work tirelessly in the humanitarian field is truly commendable.
Today, I find myself reflecting on a new humanitarian experience, this time with another esteemed global organization – the Canadian Red Cross. It was a temporary mission to serve quarantine centers in the southernmost part of Canada, near the American border, catering to farmworkers from Latin America, some of whom had contracted COVID-19, while others were undergoing quarantine protocols. It was a unique experience, one from which I learned a lot, alongside a diverse and dedicated team of employees and volunteers from the Canadian Red Cross.
It is remarkable that I celebrate this World Humanitarian Day each time from a different location, engaged in a different humanitarian mission. This time, it was in Windsor, Canada, a memory I cherish dearly.
The experience taught me invaluable lessons and reinforced the timeless truth encapsulated in the saying, “Allah aids the servant as long as the servant aids his brother.” Working alongside individuals united in the pursuit of alleviating the suffering of others has been both humbling and inspiring.
As I look ahead, I eagerly anticipate embarking on further humanitarian endeavors, by the grace of Allah. Each experience enriches my understanding of compassion, resilience, and the power of collective action in making a difference in the lives of those in need.
On this World Humanitarian Day, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all humanitarian workers, volunteers, donors, and advocates who tirelessly strive to spread joy and bring smiles to the faces of those in need. May our collective efforts continue to bring hope and relief to the most vulnerable among us.
