I was delighted to attend a virtual meeting with Aya, Lyn, and a group of children in Canada who are passionate about advocating for and raising awareness about the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Yemen. The participating children have taken pioneering initiatives to raise funds for humanitarian projects in Yemen, as well as launched online advocacy campaigns and pressured politicians.
The meeting was attended by Minister of Family, Child and Social Development, Ahmed Hussein, and Minister of Diversity, Inclusion, and Youth, Bardish Chagger, both of whom praised the children’s level of awareness and addressed their questions.
My daughter Aya presented at her school to educate students about the challenges facing childhood in Yemen, especially the shortage of water, food, and healthcare. She asked the ministers about the Canadian government’s role in delivering humanitarian aid to Yemen and providing COVID vaccines to the country.
The meeting provided a valuable opportunity for children to interact with the ministers comfortably and confidently!
I extend my gratitude to the ministers and to the organizing body of the initiative, the Islamic Relief Organization in Canada, which enjoys the trust of the Canadian government, opposition, and media in a country that values humanitarian work without reservations or obstacles!
