Reflecting on a Year of Humanitarian Endeavors: My Achievements in 2018

As per the advice of our esteemed mentor in global humanitarian work, Dr. Hany El Banna, it is incumbent upon all humanitarian workers to present a summary of their activities and contributions for the year 2018. Here, I am proud to outline some of my personal achievements and engagements:

  1. Visiting and overseeing over 30 humanitarian projects, (including more than 10 projects I’ve been involved in since the planning stages), spanning across 25 cities/villages in 10 countries across 4 continents. Key locations included Somalia, South Sudan, Darfur, Bosnia, South Africa, Mandera, Kenya, and Rohingya refugee camps in Malaysia.

  2. Undertaking 45 international and domestic flights, including 6 flights with the International Organization for Migration, a subsidiary of the United Nations.

  3. Contributing to organizing community activities in Canada to support relief efforts in Yemen, Burma, Syria, Gaza, and Indonesia.

  4. Supervising the launch of an international youth volunteer initiative.

  5. Training over 50 youths in Canada, Malaysia, and South Africa in team-building and volunteer management in the humanitarian field.

  6. Attending committees to study more than 50 humanitarian projects in areas such as education, food security, health, economic empowerment, housing, psychosocial support, child protection, and orphan sponsorship.

  7. Engaging in working meetings with ministers and local officials in 6 countries.

  8. Organizing visits to sponsored orphans and orphanages in 7 countries.

  9. Networking with dozens of outstanding humanitarian workers, field heroes, in various regions around the world.

As we bid farewell to 2018, I am immensely grateful for the opportunities to serve my country and humanity worldwide with professionalism, expertise, and respect for humanitarian standards. I pray that our efforts are accepted and recorded in our favor by the Almighty.

My compass is clear, my determination unwavering, and my commitment to giving back to society remains steadfast despite the challenges. I extend heartfelt gratitude to my esteemed parents, who instilled in me the values of honesty, integrity, and service to others, as well as to my beloved scouting organization, which nurtured in me the spirit of initiative, volunteerism, and community development.

In conclusion, I remain steadfast in my dedication to serving humanity, guided by the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), and I am confident that our collective efforts will continue to make a positive impact in the world.

Wishing you all a blessed year ahead, filled with prosperity and goodwill.
